Chef Brett Sparman’s Santa Fe Green Chile Cheeseburger

"I've toured the Green Chile Cheeseburger trail and enjoyed this verde-smothered delight at a number of restaurants. But, after two years, I think I have found the best Green Chile Cheeseburger in Santa Fe (for now).

Inn at the Loretto is a warm and inviting hotel and spa on any day of the year but on a winter night, with the fire going in the huge lounge fireplace, it is extra warm and inviting.  Valet parking made it easy to avoid the icy streets in downtown Santa Fe.

The Living Room is the Inn's lounge.  With overstuffed leather furniture and warm textiles, it is conducive to rest and relaxation.  Add in a $6 Happy Hour glass of wine, some conversation with travelers and you will make this one of your favorite spots to relax and unwind."

Thrill of the Chase – Santa Fe’s Real Life Indian Jones

BLAME RALPH LAUREN.  In 1996 the designer paid a visit to his friend Forrest Fenn, who lived in Santa Fe, N.M.  Fenn had recently undergone chemo and radiation for kidney cancer, and was told there was only a 20 percent chance for his survival.  He sold his successful Santa Fe art gallery and settled in to await the inevitable.  While he did, many friends stopped by to visit him and his wife at home.

The place was filled with more than 5,000 pieces of museum-quality Southwestern art and artifacts, from Sitting Bull’s pipe and an 18th-century painted buffalo skin to early Indian pottery and rare Plains Indian medicine bonnets.  Lauren immediately fell in love with a Crow Indian hat covered in white ermine skins and carved antelope horns, and offered to buy it.  Fenn refused, saying it was one of his favorites. Lauren said, “Well, you can’t take it with you.”  To which Fenn replied, “Then I’m not going.”

Guest Review: Winter Break in Santa Fe

Winter break in Santa Fe this year.  We stayed for a few nights at the Loretto. We were in town seeing friends and family. Most of our time at the Inn was in the evenings where we enjoyed hot chocolate and Irish coffee by the roaring fire in the lounge and then enjoying our beautiful rooms and the cozy beds late at night. The warm red orange adobe walls, the fireplace, and patio afforded us views of light falling snow Christmas day. Gorgeous. The ringing of bells coming from the historical churches nearby on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day was more than magical. The location is optimum and walking distance from fabulous food, art, shops and the famous square where the local Indians come to sell their jewelry and art. I also noticed that pets were allowed in certain rooms which is probably a plus for those who can't leave their pets at home. I am sorry to say that I did not get a chance to use their spa facilities and sorely regretted it after reading other reviews. (I used my luxury allowance during this trip to buy Indian artwork). The valet here were extremely attentive and remembered our names. Definitely impressed.

I would come back. I recommend the Inn and Spa at Loretto.

From Your Santa Fe Spa Expert: How To Make Rose Water

Wonder what to do with roses? Make rose water!

Rose water has been made since ancient times for purification, healing wounds, calming parched dry skin, and soothing frazzled nerves.

It's really a very simple process. Just collect fresh rose petals from your bouquets and gardens, pull out a few kitchen items and get ... distilling!

What you'll need:

  • enamel pot with a dome lid
  • brick or smooth round stones
  • heat resistant glass or stainless steel bowl (quart size)
  • two to three quarts fresh rose petals (no stems or leaves)
  • distilled water
  • ice (cubed or crushed)

Place the brick/stones in the bottom of the enamel pot on stove. Place glass bowl on the brick. Add the fresh rose petals to the pot around the base of the bowl and brick, then add enough water to cover the roses. The water should be right at brick level.

Bring water to a rolling boil then turn down to a simmer. Invert the lid (dome side down) on the pot and place ice in the lid. The steam rising from the roses and water below will reach the inverted dome lid, condense and drip into the bowl below.

Collect the water in 20 minute intervals and put it into a clean jar. It should make about half to one quart of the most wonderfully fragrant rose water.  Store in the refrigerator!

The Hip & Urban Girl's in Santa Fe, New Mexico

The Hip & Urban Girl's Guide is a lifestyle website dedicated to the busy city girl.  They cover food, travel, life advice, style, and unique finds.  Read what they had to say about The Inn and Spa at Loretto below.

Checking In: The Inn & Spa at Loretto, Santa Fe

Santa Fe is a lovely old town in New Mexico that is filled with art galleries, charming little restaurants and hotels. I had the pleasure of staying at The Inn and Spa at Loretto right in the heart of Santa Fe and within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to see and do during our three day visit here. Picture old cobblestone streets, narrow walkways and stunning Spanish architecture. It's definitely the place for an unforgettable romantic getaway or honeymoon as you stroll through the streets at night after a gourmet dinner. We left our car parked for almost our entire time here.

The hotel itself is ranked #27 on the Condé Nast Traveler list and is full of character and dark exposed wood beams, having been built in 1975 with adobe-style architecture in mind. The building sits right next to the old Loretto Chapel (completed in 1878) and the location of the hotel is the site of the old girls school that the sisters of Loretto used to run.

Loretto’s Wedding Expert: A Letter to the Groom

Should Grooms have a say? We think so.

Important wedding decision making is a great way to start exercising decision and compromise making for the future. Remember that your wedding is a rite of passage. It's an opportunity to create a celebration to remember for you, your bride, and your friends and family. It is the first day you will begin your life with your wife,  as her husband.

It's never too early to begin talking about how you envision your wedding day.  Before you decide on details - like date, time, and location - step back and picture the image you’d like to paint for yourself and bride. Forget rules you may hear that suggest a sit-down dinner reception or formal evening wear. Do want you want, do it to satisfy your needs and your style. Different approaches to consider include a weekday ceremony on a special date that has meaning, an intimate service in a significant city, or a causal outdoor picnic-like reception in the early afternoon.

Get your creative juices flowing by creating the complete fantasy together.  Then find ways to keep the concept alive while accommodating your budget.  Focus on the big picture to create a thread of style that can weave its way throughout everything your guests come into contact with. This includes, but is not limited to - invitations, the reception, and thank-you cards.

Given this information, I can help you and your bride create a wedding celebration that is right for both of you.

Guest Review: “Outstanding Service, Gorgeous Resort made for a Beautiful Santa Fe Experience”

We received truly outstanding service from the team at the Inn and Spa at Loretto! My wife and I recently visited Santa Fe for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this spectacular property. We absolutely loved Santa Fe and especially the fabulous Inn and Spa at Loretto. Our experience at this resort was so enjoyable in large part because of the highly personalized service we received from General Manager Dennis Marcinik and Food & Beverage Director Natasha Aasgaarden.

We have had the good fortune to travel extensively over the past 25 years and have stayed at some of the finest hotels in the world. Throughout our global travels, I have rarely encountered such warm and gracious hospitality as was extended by this team. Dennis's team treated us like old friends...cheerfully answering many questions and enthusiastically counseling us regarding potential dining choices, daily activities and transportation options.

The pursuit of good food is always an integral part of our vacations. We enjoyed the culinary scene around Santa Fe and particularly the creative and delicious offerings at Luminaria. Natasha's team made us feel like guests in their home with many special touches ranging from rose petals on the table to outrageous tortilla soup...everything was perfect! The food was phenomenal and totally in harmony with the natural beauty of the area.

Today we all work in a tough business environment where there is no shortage of hollow rhetoric about excellent customer service, so it is truly refreshing to experience the real thing. Congratulations to Dennis and Natasha for assembling such a strong team that obviously takes personal responsibility for delighting guests. Because of the outstanding treatment we received coupled with the rich beauty of the resort, we will certainly be returning to the Inn and Spa at Loretto. You will love this beautiful resort!
